This week, we’re going behind the scenes of Tampa’s legendary Bern’s Steak House.
In 1953, the late Bern Laxer and his wife, Gertrude, opened what was then Bern and Gert’s Little Midway. Today, Bern’s Steak House is one of Tampa’s biggest restaurants—both in sheer size and popularity. The restaurant is celebrated for its upscale dining rooms, knowledgeable wait staff and attention to detail.
Reservations fills up months in advance, but you won’t need to call ahead for this tour. Bern’s chef de cuisine Habteab “Hab” Hamde guides us through the labyrinth that makes up the restaurant’s back-of-house operation, from the massive kitchen to the pastry department… and of course the steaks. Chef Hab even reveals his secret to grilling a great steak at home.
It’s Bern’s Baby Bern’s… this week on The Zest.
